I just heard from Brad Kershaw ~ bbktexas regarding his drop dead gorgeous 1960 430MEL Grey Squarebird. He and fellow North Texas member, Scott Sims ~ ss396t6 recently ran into each other at a DFW event. In past years Brad also had posted information regarding replacing his 430 Starter with a more modern in. I will post that link also. Here is what he had to say and also some pix he sent.
"Scott, I have been a contributor on Squarebirds.org for years. I met Ray at a convention in Fredericksburg. He has a gorgeous custom bird. Here are some of the first pictures of mine. I should probably post them to the website under projects. The VIN shows a ‘J’ code which is the 430 Lincoln motor and the color code is ‘Z’ which is the light grey metallic. It was an early 1960 so it had the grey platinum paint versus the later champagne platinum. The car was a faded green repaint when I got it, but I returned it to the metallic grey it was born with. I did use a base coat / clear coat instead of the original enamel paint. This has been in work for about 27 years and getting it on the road this June was indeed special. I would love to share her with the members of Squarebirds.org in the Our Rides forum. There are a few other things I need to post as well that I learned while rebuilding my 430. I have the forum to thank for putting me on the right track for the starter. The RobbMC starter is working perfectly. Brad"
Here is that link to the RobbMC starter he installed.
