    Tbirder In The Passing Lane

I just received the sad news that our great friend, and fellow Squarebirder, Sal Scheri ~ saverio has passed on. John Byers ~byersmtrco sent me this email to inform us of his passing. This is a great loss to his family and also to us who knew and loved him. Here is what Sal's son had to say.

"Late Wednesday afternoon, my dad, Saverio Scheri, lost his fight with esophageal cancer. After his treatment of many weeks of chemotherapy and radiation treatments, he underwent surgery for this very aggressive cancer. The surgery was extremely complicated and was very intrusive to his body. While it initially appeared he did well with the surgery, he soon started having a hard time maintaining his vital signs. This battle went on for over a week, and we always believed he would pull through and be with us for a few more years. Yesterday, it became too much for him to bear. We are at peace, learning only after he passed that the remaining cancer would have taken him in less than six months and he would have suffered greatly.

Dad owns a 1960 red convertible thunderbird and is a member of your club. The last thing we did together the day before his surgery was to take a ride in the T-bird. He drove and it brought a huge smile to his face.

The viewing will be Monday, June 28, 11am – 2pm in Vacaville, CA at the Vaca Hills Chapel (524 Elmira Rd, Vacaville, CA, 95627, 707-446-3233). The burial will follow immediately at 2pm at the Vacaville - Elmira Cemetery (522 Elmira Rd, Vacaville).
    Saverio R. Scheri III"

Sal's beautiful red 1960 Convertible with tonneau cover was the featured car for the month of July in the 2009 Squarebirds Calendar. We will post more information, if we learn more.

I posted this early this morning. Since then, Cathie and Dave came up with a very nice In Memory Of logo for this I thought. Look closely at the head of the Tbird... Dave just sent it to me. Here it is...

As one who has been fighting cancer for 2 years & 9 months, I know first hand how hard the fight can be. Sal's type of cancer is very aggresive. It's
always heart wrenching, the first time you hear the words from a doctor, "You Have Cancer" ~ it is like time stands still - you mentally freeze.
Whether one has aggressive cancer, or non aggressive cancer, the shock is equal. We who have it (or had it) can understand all of the hearache it brings along, how it scares the ghosts outta the loved ones, of the patient.
We all fight it. Some win. Some lose. But it's always heartbreaking to loved ones.

To Sal's family, I add, Sal is at peace, now. Remember him when he was vibrant & well. Keep his memory alive, expecially the good times and keep his
T-Bird, as he would. I feel for you. I understand all too well.

I haven't had a lot to do with this forum in recent times, by was involved when Sal a member. On reading of his passing, I just wanted to log on and send my sympathies to Sal's family and friends, and to members of this forum. He would have enjoyed that last drive, particularily as it was it with family.

Sad times - we don't like losing members of any family and he was a member of the Thunderbird family.
            Condolences from me.

Sorry to hear about Mr Scheri. I know his battle was a valiant one as I lost my Mom to cancer recently - I know it was a hard fight.

                With sympathy,
                Eric

Hi Eric, I am sorry to hear of the loss of your Mom. That is always a tough thing to go through. I lost my Mom-in-law a couple of years ago and that was tough. She was the only Mom I had for most of my life, mine having passed away when I was 12.

                    Saverio R. Scheri III,
Words fall short of expressing my sorrow for your loss. These testimonies bear witness that everyone here at Squarebirds loved Sal for many years. We are diminished by Sal's absence, but his spirit remains in our hearts. Our deepest sympathy is with you and your family. - Dave Dare
