I just received the sad news that our great friend, and fellow Squarebirder, Sal Scheri ~ saverio has passed on. John Byers ~byersmtrco sent me this email to inform us of his passing. This is a great loss to his family and also to us who knew and loved him. Here is what Sal's son had to say.
"Late Wednesday afternoon, my dad, Saverio Scheri, lost his fight with esophageal cancer. After his treatment of many weeks of chemotherapy and radiation treatments, he underwent surgery for this very aggressive cancer. The surgery was extremely complicated and was very intrusive to his body. While it initially appeared he did well with the surgery, he soon started having a hard time maintaining his vital signs. This battle went on for over a week, and we always believed he would pull through and be with us for a few more years. Yesterday, it became too much for him to bear. We are at peace, learning only after he passed that the remaining cancer would have taken him in less than six months and he would have suffered greatly.
Dad owns a 1960 red convertible thunderbird and is a member of your club. The last thing we did together the day before his surgery was to take a ride in the T-bird. He drove and it brought a huge smile to his face.
The viewing will be Monday, June 28, 11am – 2pm in Vacaville, CA at the Vaca Hills Chapel (524 Elmira Rd, Vacaville, CA, 95627, 707-446-3233). The burial will follow immediately at 2pm at the Vacaville - Elmira Cemetery (522 Elmira Rd, Vacaville).
Saverio R. Scheri III"
Sal's beautiful red 1960 Convertible with tonneau cover was the featured car for the month of July in the 2009 Squarebirds Calendar. We will post more information, if we learn more.
I posted this early this morning. Since then, Cathie and Dave came up with a very nice In Memory Of logo for this I thought. Look closely at the head of the Tbird... Dave just sent it to me. Here it is...
