    What Paint Color Is This?

As it turns out, it was a standard 1960 Lincoln and Mercury color. For the Lincoln it was called "Sapphire Metalic" and for the Mercury, "Aztec Turquoise Metallic". As far as I know, they were not special order paints. There is no indication on the color samples pages that they are. I hope he sends the pictures soon so we can see what his '60 Tbird looks like in this color.

It is interesting to note that 1960 Mercury Paint Code # K 1233 Metallic Twilight Turquoise for the Coment only, is the same as K 1233 Metallic Sultana Turquoise for the 1960 Fords. 1233 was not used as a color on the 1960 Lincolns. The Mercury Metallic Twilight Turquoise and Ford Metallic Sultana Turquoise look very much like the Mercury Metallic Sapphire and Lincoln Metallic Aztec Turquoise.

It could be a Special Order Paint (SOP).
When I ordered my pink lincoln, I looked thru
body-shop paint books, sticking to FoMoCO
color pages, and came across 1959 Lincoln
"Flamingo" - got the code and suppled
Ford with their own # for it. It was no
problem, but 1986 was the final year for
    S.O.P. Unless it's a fleet order ~~~ then
    it's still available.

    What Paint Color Is This?

I just got an email from Ken in Vancouver, regarding the color he liked so well. He told me this..

    Hello Ray,

I thought you might like to know you were a big help with color selection which I asked of you.. You were right: The car I showed you, which you liked, you named.

It is this, (as to Dupont, but as you gave Ditzler). The car is now painted, we will take photos, and I will send some to you.

Ken Higgs, re 1960 T-Bird Hardtop redo, Vancouver, B.C. Here 'was' the photo:

Here are the Dupont 'D' names, as described, same color for the two links:

Ray's comments: The color, it turns out, is a 1960 Lincoln and Mercury color, Aztec Turquoise Metallic.. A beautiful color! I can't wait to see what his '60 HT looks like now. I will post the pix as soon as I get them.

Ray, looks to me as if first a silver base coat was laid down then top coated with a custom blue/green clear transluscent custom mix paint. Think the only way to know for sure is to find the bird owner in NZ that you are looking for.

I had done a paint job on a 2006 Toyota last fall and it had the same type of silver base coat then sprayed over a transluscent cherry red top coating. Really did add a lot of depth the the paint finish because you can see thru the red top coat down to the silver base, but the overall color was truly the cherry red. Similar to the way a metal flake is first laid down then top coated with color, but don't think the bird pic you showed us had any metal flake in it, just silver base.

Ray I would agree with Coral, that it is other than Sultana Torquoise and perhaps a " one off " colour which looks like it is metal flake or high gloss application from the picture. I just went on the PPG site and the closest I could come up with ( given the picture on your link ) was Tasco Turquoise DDL-12228 # 915A which is off the Chevrolet 1960 chip code.

I'm going to say the color is other than K the Sultana Turquoise
there are two birds listed on the tbird registry numbers 2191 and 3775 that have a color "similar to sultana turquoise"

Im going to suggest S code, Briarcliffe Green although the picture is very small number 3128 but I'm still looking...

OK, scratch the S code, Im going the wrong way... LOL Ive not been able to find a C code, Aquamarine...

    What Paint Color Is This?

I received a query from someone in the West Vancouver area asking if I knew what color this 1960 Tbird convertible was painted in. My response was that I thought it was K 1233 Turquoise Metallic, Sultana Turquoise Poly, DQE-12238-DAL. It could also be D 1070 Blue/Green Metallic DQE-11921-DAL Saphirre Poly. They look to be very close. Saphirre Poly was a 1960 Tbird Special Order color and a Lincoln color. I am including the Ditzler Automotive Paint Finishes chart for the 1960 Tbird and the 1960 Lincoln. Although the color in the chart is not shiny like that on the car, it looks to be the same color. If you compare the Saphirre Poly to the Sultana Turqouise paint chip, it looks to me that the Saphirre Poly is a lighter color than the Sultanna Turqouise.

Here is the link to the website he found it on. He wants to have his '60 painted this color and I dont blame him. This is one gorgeous color!

You will find a number of pix to look at, at the top left side of the page. Scroll through them and let me know what you think what color it is and let me know. I know one thing for sure, that is one fine looking paint job and one fine looking Tbird!
