    '70 Blue Cutlass Interior Redo

One of the other cars that Danny and Joseph have been working on about as long as mine is a '70 Blue Cutlass with a 400 Engine, I think. Many of you have expressed how great a job Danny and Joseph have done with Yellow Rose. Here is an example of some of their other work. Although not a Ford, I thought you would be interested in seeing this artificial ostrich leather covering they put on this classic.

Do those skinny little rubber band tires actually hold air pressure, or are they solid rubber bands?

Those tires actually hold air! Look closely and you can see the valve stem. Danny, Joseph and I think the rims are to big for that car. Personally, if it were my car, and that engine, I would want a lot more rubber than that under me!

Guys, I have very similar on a BMW 545i that are BMW options, they look like a strip of licorice (or how ever you spell it) but lose nothing in ride or performance - they actually increase traction I think and I can tell you at 250kmh, they feel great (and safe)!

Whatīs interesting is that in the ī50:s, wheels became smaller and smaller in order to make the car look bigger. Remember the ī30īs? What was it? In the 30 inch region?
Nowadays, if you look at the latest Audi A8, they try to make the car look smaller by putting bigger wheels on again.
The troubble with the "Liquorice" type of rubber on the Cutlass here is that there is hardly any air to take the load, so puncture is close on any pott or bump on the road. Thatīs why you never see any car from factory with that sort of tire.
Funny also that these super low profile is mostly a US trend, as most brands need to mount smaller diamerer with more air, for comfort, for cars going to US that in Europe.

Yeah but apparently Bill has started a trend in Western Australia doing 165MPH. I recall back in the '70s when WY and MT had no speed limits on some of the open roads. Back then I had the opportunity to do 135mph on a "no speed limit" road, but that was back in the day of 14" tires. Perhaps you just heard recently that 2 MN Vikings football players were stopped last week for doing in excess of 100mph in the Twin Cities. Betcha they had the skinny rubber band tires on their expensive cars. In MN the law says automatic loss of driver's license for any speed stop over 100mph.

It is pretty remote up here Jed and I havent gone that fast often, but as it is 650 km's to the next town with a desert like landscape most of the way....you do get a bit of an opportunity to open it up a bit and see how fast you can go in RELATIVE safety. In the neighbouring state, they only introduced speed limits on their remote highways in the last couple of years. You could legally do 200mph if you could!!

                  '70 & '82 Cutless Interior Redo's

I thought I would share with you the website that I made for Danny since he did not have one. It is nothing really special, but it gives him a website that he can tell people about and that they can look at to see the quality of his work.

If you click on the interior picture of YellowRose, it will take you to a bunch of pictures of cars they have worked on. If you want to see more pictures, click on that torn up blue front seat and it will take to the links to my web pages, and also to the two links for the restoration work on the '70 & '82 Olds Cutlass's they are working on. They are down at the bottom of the page..
