    Those Tbird Display Signs!

As you might have noticed, pix from Chris ~ bird 60, often have those Thunderbird signs sitting in front of the cars when they are at a S&S Down Under. So I asked Chris about them, and here is what he had to say...

"With the Signs, I make them Myself with a Jigsaw. I did one for my BIRD & the next thing I was getting orders. I do it all except for the Color & Lettering, which is done by a Sign Writer.
You are more than welcome to make one for yourself.
The measurements are 33'' from Tip to Tip, & 13" from Head to center of Tail. The Material that's used is pressed Pulp 3/8" thick, for both the 'BIRD & the Back. To open You need a Door Hinge, 4 small Screws, make sure they don't go through the other side, use Spacer or Washers like I've used. The Hook is there for placing on the Wall when not at Shows. The Little Hole down the Bottom is for Very Windy Days, if on Grass to put a 4-5" pin."

He gave me permission to share this with ya'll in case you want to make one for your Tbird. I intend to have Danny make one with 1959 on it for Rose. Here are some pix he sent me of what they look like, front and back.

    Those Tbird Display Signs!

Today, I received a copy of the layout for the Tbird display sign that I was talking about below this. I am going to loan it to Danny to make my sign with. After we are finished with it, if anyone would like it, let me know and I can mail it on to you. You can make your sign and send me the layout back in case someone else wants to make one. Chris ~ bird 60 folded it over several times so it is thin and easy to mail.

      Those Tbird Display Signs!

Today, I got to see my Tbird Display Sign that Danny finished. He had a friend of his do the wording on it. I got the template back from him. So if anyone wants to borrow it and make one for themselves for S&S displays, let me know. Here are a couple of pix.

          Those Tbird Display Signs!

          Hi Sal,

Glad you like the sign. You can put on it what you want to. I decided to add the "Tweety Bird" to the sign because that is what people around here are starting to call her. When new customers come into Danny's shop, they usually see her sitting there and admire her. Danny says they have had sooo many great comments about how she looks and the work that has been done to her. His customers have re-named her "Tweety Bird". lol..

I have your snail mail address and will send it off to you. You do not need to send me anything to cover postage. Just remember to send it back. You can make your own tracing from it if you want to. If you look further down this page you will see how the back hinge is made and the back section that holds it up. There should be plenty of pix to go by.

Speaking of sign boards, if you have any ideas in that area, I could use them. I want to make a sign board stating that the Interior work was performed by Danny's Auto Upholstery and the embroidery work on the Tbirds and roses was done by A1 Sports. Something like that, but I want it to look nice.

Ray an idea for your signboard for Danny. Up here we have Kinko's ( similar stores in the USA or sign shops ) that make signs of various sizes out of corrplast, which is a plastic fibre board. They can also " heat treat " a plastic film over the completed sign to weatherize it. We have these made for outside club functions or S&S.

Ray, I have made a sign from the same material that Dan is talking about. I had it made at a local signwriter's. It is both sturdy and classy as the plastic coating protects the sign work very well and gives a nice low sheen to the finished product.

If I wasn't up in Broome at the moment I would attach a picture, but will PM one to you when I get back to Perth in 2 weeks time.

I use mine at S & S's to explain the whole squarebird history and the subtle differences between my 59 & 60. I have to admit to "borrowing" some of the rhetoric on the Squarebirds home page.....

Thanks for the comments, ya'll! I will look forward to getting those pix, Bill. Dano, I will check with Kinko's, now owned by FedEx in this country. I know I want something that looks really nice to display.

                  sign board ideas

                  Ray,
I like what I am hearing about the plastic boards-nice and light weight, I hope.

We have an engraving machine with a vinyal letter attachment. I will probably have all the lettering cut out on the machine, once i decide what I what to say. Then I thought about a plexiglass cover or painting a polyurethane coat over everything.

But , I will definetly look into finding a KinKo's if there is one out here in La La Land.

I can't wait to see everyone's Bird Signs.

Sal, if you have a graphics plotter that cuts vinyl letters, you can also cut a UV overlam that is a clear vinyl sheathing which you simply laminate on top of the letters or applied graphics. You can apply the overlam onto each individual letter or graphic design, or you can cut a sheet large enough to cover the entire display board. You may be able to further investigate this at averygraphics.com

                      sign board

                      Thanks Buddy,
I will look into that also. I think I am leaning toward covering the entire board and i don't think my machine is large enough to do that. But maybe I can get an overlay large enough and cover it all and then just trim the border.

                          Lettering

                          Hi everyone:

Have any of you ever checked into "uppercaseliving.com" for lettering. They are very excellent and will even allow you to custom order your own lettering. This product is used for many commercial applications and it is easy to put on and very durable. Just google it and check it out yourself but I really think it would be perfect for this application.

Here is the display sign I had made to take to show and shines. It saves me saying the same thing over and over (remember we dont have a lot of Thunderbirds here in OZ) and leaves you time to talk to the real enthusiasts.

Apologies for the poor photography skills....the blurred image in the background of the sign is my '60 drivers side front and wheel.

As mentioned I "borrowed" some of this sites rhetoric for sign.
