    old drag racing pics

These are old foto's from what looks to be the 50s and 60s. The pictures are all taken in Virginia. I was clicking through the pics and found a 59 bird at pic #54. I also spotted and old Volvo 444 in pic # 40 or 41. Just kinda cool to look at.

Not just kinda cool - Awsome! Thanks!!!

All different classes - cycles - even the Brits and Swedes were there (MGA, TR2A or TR3 vs Volvo).

Wish we could see who won in the 59 Tbird vs 59 Pontiac.

That pic of the baby bird vs the vette only looks like the vette was going to win - he blew the engine and the Tbird won in the last second (at least that's how I guessed it).

Got a kick out of the guy handing out the trophies on crutches.

In one pic the tires on a 55 Chevy at the gate look like bicycle tires these days.

    Miss Roanoke Dragway - heeellooo.

If that t-bird was a 352 it most likely hung right there. But if it was a 430 it was bye bye poncho. Back in the day great photos.

about 7-8 something pictures into the slides, there was a nice coloured pic from a parking place where I could see two Volvo PV ( 444) and I beleve 1 Volvo Amazon ( 121 ). That was cool.

Victor thanks for the " blast from the past ". It was great to see all the old dragsters, including the 58 Tbird fly down the quarter mile. Back in the day the gas wasn't over $3.00+ a gallon, so you could afford the occasional race and have some left over for a burger & soda.

Eric, I'd like to think the vette boy didn't know he was up against a RARE supercharged 312cid!! The Bird easily took that vette & shut 'em down!! LOL!!!

I first noticed this on a classic bowling tournament. Look at the crowd attending this event. Not one overweight person anywhere. I'm overweight. What has changed since these days? FAST FOOD! If you had that event today, half of the people would be overweight and a third would be obese. It is not that we are less active; it's the type of food that we are fed. We are so more active that we drive thru a fast food joint and eat the fried foods. Just MHO and yes I do need to eat better.

Quite right Michael with the fast food and the choices we make, except I do think that our life-styles have changed to be a bit more "comfortable" and in doing such, we have indeed become a bit less active...
remote controls for the TV, lights, stereo, starting the car...?
riding lawn mowers, versus push mowers...

There's all sorts of things different today than back then, over indulgence is at the top of the list in my book, LOL

If I want a 475 calorie (190 calories of FAT alone!) Strawberry cream cheese danish, I will eat it, AFTER I have planned what to do to burn off those calories! I got rid of 15lbs. within this past year, and it's still off, without trouble, if you or anyone would like some pointers, shoot me a PM or email, be glad to assist!

I will send you something later today Michael, as for doing a PM or email, place your cursor on anyone's member name and right click, a 'box' will appear with selections... you right click on whichever function, and it will automatically take you to another screen.
