  • A Year Ago Yesterday....

A year ago yesterday, I was following my friend Rich back from northern Mississippi, as he drove my '59 Tbird back to San Antonio, with me following in my van loaded down with tools and a floor jack. Tools, that it turned out we would need when we got to the west side of Houston and became tied up in stopped traffic... The generator stopped charging the battery and killed it. I was able to get a loaner battery from Autozone and we got the Bird to their store and spend the next couple of hours working on her to get her back on the road. A new battery, belt and some good adjusting of it got us the rest of the way home to San Antonio from there.

Since then, so much has been done to fix and improve "Rose", that the previous owner probably would not recognize her, except for her external and internal color. One of these days, when I get to that, he wont be able to tell it used to be his car! So much has happened since I found Squarebirds as a newbie.... I think I know more about cars than I ever wanted to know..

Ray, it is always nice to hear the stories behind acquiring these classic cars and the little bumps along the road, so to speak. It was a good thing that Autozone loaned you the battery, repaired the problem for the rest of your journey back to San Antonio. You are quite correct that our site is a haven, for many knowledgeable people and I too have learned a lot about our cars. I used to think that I knew what made them tick but our members and guests blow me away, with their expertise and my printed technical file has grown.I am also glad that you found our site and your contribution along with the many other members to it, has not gone unoticed, with the input of threads / posts. It is this type of contribution that will keep our site running for many years to come. Thank you.

      I admire that

      Yes, I admire that!
You see, I have two left hands and the average 5th grade young girl has more "know-how" than I do. My best pal is the "yellow pages" ~
so.....when I buy a collector car, I need to buy one that's ALL DONE and show ready. I depend upon my Lincoln Dealer & my Jeep Dealer for my & my wife's cars and my Ford dealer for my "toy".
One thing that I did learn....
      was to not try and
      fix ANYTHING
      myself
