The Day Elvis Bought A Tbird..

      Hi Bill,

Actually, I was looking for information on spark plug comparison studies for you guys when I found that. I really have not found anything worthwhile on studies conducted on spark plugs to see which is best recommended. I looked through our Technical Resource Library, and did a Search, but I will continue looking, but right now, I gots to get some sleep! G'Night!

I remember reading about that Elvis sports roadster. In the article I read Elvis was driving through a sharp turn rather quickly, and a wire wheel nearly came APART!!

After that experince in his "new" T-Bird, he wanted NOTHING to do with the car. It was the spoked wire wheels in that article too which interested Elvis P.

That bottom one is '55, unless the hardtop was replaced. The '55 had the solid hardtop like that, '56 & '57 had portholes.

Thanks, Anders for posting those two old and rare pictures! It is to bad they had a problem with those wire wheels when they drove it to California for him. If it had not been for that, that Tbird might be sitting on display at his home today..

Doug, Just to clarify... Early In '56, porthole windows were a no-cost option. Many '56s did not have portholes.

The hardtop portholes windows were an option in 1957 (though most of the '57 little birds had them).

I don´t argue, but the pic said ´56....
Might be that he tryed a ´55 in ´56?......

The year 1956 was when the 'wind wings' first appeared on the Thunderbird, stated to reduce air turbulence in the passenger compartment. The 1955 Thunderbird didn't have wind wings, nor sun visors. The pictured car has these, not the same as vent windows, the 'wings' were positioned outside the door glass. Appears to be a 56 Thunderbird. Nice pictures!
