  • Squarebird "Junior" cars, pedal cars, "Emblem" bicycles or motorcycles

There are two items that I have been wanting to buy for months. I've been looking all over the web with no results. The first is an old metal pedal car, specifically a squarebird. I prefer 1960, however have seen (google) images of a red 58' Thunderbird pedal car that was made. The second item is an "Emblem" bicycle. They were made in my hometown of Angola NY a hundred years ago. Emblem is the brand name. Emblem also made motorcycles. Has anyone ever seen either for sale? Alternatively, has anyone ever seen a squarebird pedal car in person?

Jim, I do not know if there are any Thunderbird pedal cars that were being made, but I DO know about the "Junior" 1955-1966 Tbirds that were made back in the 50's-'60's by the Powercar company of Mystic, Connecticut! In fact, you may still be able to find these "Junior" cars. They were electric and also gas models that were made, and they were also made for Mustangs when they came out, Edsels, and other Ford and GM cars! Here is some information regarding them that might excite you... If you can find one, they are not going to be cheap, I am sure... Junior Tbirds - Lee Exline ~ roadkillontheweb is one person you may want to talk with to pursue this. He has not been active on the Forum since 2015. I do not know if he is still walking this earth, but he is the guy to talk with regarding these old "Junior" Tbirds. Ford used to give them away to some of their buyers of the Big Thunderbirds back in the days. Also, other companies used them as grand prizes in giveaways.. Here are some links you may want to go through that I posted back in 2009 about the history of these Jr. Tbirds. In fact, in one of the Squarebirds.org past Calendars, (2013), there was a red Flairbird with a picture of it's "Junior" Flairbird in the picture! Here it is, a 1964 Flairbird, and "Junior" 1964 Flairbird. I will see if I can get in contact with Lee. In the meantime, you can spend some time going through the thread that I created and posted back in 2009! I used to have a source for complete "Junior" cars, but I will have to see if that source is still with us, because it is over 10 years old now. I will make a call later today, in case we have anyone who is still interested in acquiring one of them.

I have spoken with my source who used to have a number of various years of Junior Tbirds, and other makes... She is still with us, however, all have been sold except 2. One is a 1957 Junior Babybird and it is NOT for sale... The other is a 1957 Babybird un-restored body and it might be for sale. She is going to send me some information on it. She, other than possibly Lee Exline, were the only 2 who might have had some back then, that I knew of. She said she did not know of anyone who, back then, was making Junior type pedal cars.. As for that model of bicycle, that is one that I do not know anything about. Here is the Facebook page for Lee Exline ~Jrcentral. I do not see any activity since 2016....

I have spoken with Lee Exline ~ roadkillontheweb and he told me that he has sold his reproduction business to Brian Orr - Missouri. Both Lee and Brian are monitoring that FB page I cited above. He also told me that finding complete "Junior" Tbirds, Mustangs, and other models, is difficult to find. He also said that Brian has the some of the molds, the 1/3 Babybird, I think, and the 1/3 and/or 1/4 Squarebird mold. So the possibility is there to buy the mold, and parts and put one together yourself... Lee is acting as an advisor to Brian. He did mention that one of the big Tbird Clubs was planning on having a big event next year, and will be asking those who own "Junior" Tbirds to bring them along with their Tbird to display them! I am sure there will be more information regarding that coming out over the next months or so, as those plans are put together.. Brian told me that there was a just recent Mustang convention where members were invited to bring their "Junior" Mustangs along with them. It was a big hit from what I understand..

Ray, thank you for all the leg work that you did on retrieving past info and figuring out the current status of availabilities/people on this matter. I've been doing some searches and reading abound the Jr offerings. This was triggered by me visiting an antique shop last week and the guy had a coin operated model t ride like what would have been outside of convenience stores (long before I was born). The T was not a body style match to my dad's roaster though. I have a couple weeks vacation next month that I'm using to spend time fixing the 22' model T, a Powerstroke F-250, my 96 bird, and hopefully my dad's 60. I've been collecting some 60' thunderbird AMT promos (previous post) for displays at car shows, I'm up to 7. Lots to do!

Edit: Found one... different year though.. (I hope if I do ever find one, it is a fixer upper... this is too rich for my pockets....)

That is an excellent example of a like new Bulletbird Junior. I am not surprised at the asking price, consider it's condition... They are not easy to find for sale...

I have found the files for the original 1955-1966 "Junior" Thunderbird cars webpage created years ago and recovered it. Here is the new, revised link to it for you to enjoy... As soon as I receive the contact information from Lee for Brian Orr I will post it. In the meantime, you can try their Facebook webpage link above. You may have to log into FB to access it, which is what I did..

Yes, I did see all the makes! I spent a couple hours reading on these units, and searching online.for one for sale. Interesting pieces. Now that I know about them, I will not forget. Someday I'll own one. I also stopped by my dad house, climbed into the attic of his 2 story shed, and checked out his pedal car collection (close to 10) which he has had longer than I've been alive. Interesting pieces!I They haven't seen the light of day in over 20 years.

Much like I looked for 1960 birds for a year and a half, including viewing many in person in about a half dozen states, the search for my thunderbird Jr. has begun. I do not know if it'll take 1.5 years like it took for me to pick out the aquamarine sunroof in my profile picture. Given I plan to still have that 60' in 50 years from now, I'm in no real rush to overpay on Jr. It will happen, at some point.

Jim, if I did not say it already, it would be great to see some pix of your Dad's pedal car collection! Especially if any of them are Tbirds. I am pleased to say that the new owner of JR Central the "Junior" Tbird company is now a member of Squarebirds.org! Brian Orr ~ JrCentral joined today and is now the owner of the assets of the Powercar Company that went under in the mid '60's.. He should be posting here in this Thread as he becomes active. He can tell us a lot about the "Junior" cars, not just the Tbirds!

Brian ~ JrCentral just became a new Paid Member! So now he can post pix regarding the various Junior Cars that were made directly here for ya'll to enjoy. Both he and I would like to know how many of you own a Powercar "Junior" car, regardless of brand. I know of some people out there who have a number of them in their collection.... Does anyone own just the body shell? If so, Brian can certainly help you put wheels under that thang, and get it going again! He said that the electric models are harder to find than the gas powered ones...

Nice recruiting!!!! I'll post pics if I take them out of the shed next month. They are buried behind LOTS of stuff and have been there since the 2 store shed was built in the late 90's. A part of me hopes my siblings forgot my dad has them that way I inherent them all.

We still have the original molds they used to make the 1957-60 Tbirds and can reproduce new bodies. Plus molds for most of the parts needed for the other years. Currently I am aware of a couple of 55's for sale, a 65 gas Tbird and the 63 listed previously on here. Whenever we get contacted by a seller to sell a Junior we post it on our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Jrcentraldotcom

Hi Brian! It is good to have you as a member of the Forum. I appreciate Lee telling me that you had bought the business and was continuing with it. The subject of Junior Tbirds and other brands had not come up for some years now, until Jim ~ kowalj04 posted about pedal cars. That reminded me about the Junior Tbirds, so I rescued the webpage that used to run and brought it back again, and then brought back the links to your website. It will be interesting to see if any of our active users happen to have a "Junior" in their back pocket! No one has mentioned having one before, that I can recall, but ya never know. I see your '59 Squarebird Avatar is looking good with the young boy and girl riding in it! You mentioned to me on the phone the name of the company who took over Powercar when they closed down. Can you provide us with a bit of history regarding that company?
