i went to "anything goes" because this is not an old car issue, but i thought maybe someone out there knows something about new cars with OBD systems. my wifes 08 mercedes e 500, just died yesterday, cranks but no start. i did check to see if gas was coming out of the fuel rail and it wasn't. i put some starter fluid in the mass air sensor and it ran a bit. i put my scanner on it and got p0336, crank position sensor, i understand if this sensor goes out you get no fuel to the injectors. i pulled the sensor out, it has three prongs. not sure how to check it with my meter. i think this is likely the problem, they are not expensive $20-40 but would like to know that replacing it would solve my problem. i dont think its the fuel pump, but can't be sure. the fuel pump relay and fuse are ok. anyone out there have a day job as a modern mechanic? who might have some thoughts?
