I have a friend who is considering buying this gorgeous looking red Convertible with tonneau cover. This Squarebird has undergone a 7 year restoration which was just completed this summer. It is my understanding that everything works, that there are not body or rust issues with this Tbird. I told my friend that if he had no objection, I would post the pix on our Forum and let others give me their opinion of what the car might be worth. Please look over the pix and give me your opinion of the value of this Tbird. I will pass on to him what you tell me. Here are the first set of pix and I will have to do this in two posts.

Stunning, but I would have went with another color for the seats and dash. No harm ment, just my color choice would have been buckskin.
Value in the $200,000.00 range. Well worth the money to spend a little more on that buckskin seating and dash.Comment

I think the color combo is tops. Buckskin I would leave to Davy Crocket, Jim Bowie & Daniel Boone.I'm sure that the trunk is just as good as the rest of the resto, & I'm guessing the Conv-Top is White. The person who's going to buy it obviously would have to have a big wallet. To my opinion the money spent on the project would have to exceed the $100,000. What I think it's worth, $120,000.

Ray looking at the 2 sets of pixs /the quality of the restoration and the fact it is a convert, I would agree with Chris that a good buy would be $100K-$120K. That being said is your friend thinking of buying as an investment or just cause he can
I ask, as the resale value down the road MAY not yield that purchase price unless there are ideal conditions at an auction. Although very well done I would want to get an appraisal done to determine the current value before committing that kind of$$Dano Calgary,Alberta Canada

Wow, that's a beautiful car. Personally, I'm not a fan of the extra chrome, the toneau or the continental kit, but it's still stunning.
I'm not sure where the 6 figure values are coming from. NADA classic car values indicate a high value around $50K and the priciest '60 convertibles on Hemmings are under $60K.
I hope your friend is happy with their purchase.Comment

Ray glad your buddy bought the 60 convert as other than I don't prefer the red color, it is very impressive. Without giving away the actual price paid ( that is his business ) can you let us know the range? This would benefit future purchase's for other people.
If you prefer perhaps send me a PM messageDano Calgary,Alberta Canada

What Is The Value of this '60 Convertible?
Hi Dano! I will see what he has to say and what I can say, if he does tell me. I think that because the entire car is painted like that, is one reason why the value gestimates are high. One does not normally see Squarebirds with a total paint job like that. That, and the total restoration done to it. It is one gorgeous Tbird, especially with the chrome packages, tonneau cover and continental kit, IMHO..

In my opinion, & I'm sure others will agree, this T. BIRD is a lot better than the production ones from when new. Taking in consideration the man hours, the new parts, the chrome, & the extras plus being a convertible there's a ****-of a lot of $s spent on it. My T.Bird 1960 Hard Top was done practically the same, & completed in 1997. It was insured for $70,000 in 2007 & still is. At the end of the day what people ask for is one thing, what one is prepared to pay is another. As we all know there are different levels of restorations. If NADA was to see the pictures shown in progression I'm sure they would put a much higher figure to the one in question.
My humble opinion.

What Is The Value of this '60 Convertible?
Here is what the new owner has to say about this gorgeous '60 Convertible...
"The new owner of this gorgeous Tbird appreciates the input from world wide members on this car. Yes, he feels "honored" in being able to purchase. He knows the builder and quality of the 7 year restoration that has gone into it. Although being in "T-birding" since 1964, plus having seen and participated in many rotisserie restorations of 55'-57', as well as 58' thru 66's, he say's that having seen and judged a "litany" of "big bird" restorations, none can hold a candle to the quality of this one! NADA, Old Price Guide and others need to re-evaluate their # 1 price values as this might just set a NEW record for 1960 Thunderbird convertibles (should he decide to sell ). At this time he doesn't plan on driving it and it will be insurred in the six figure range. "

I don't know about the States, but here in OZ., in Just Cars, & Unique Cars, from memory they show 3 levels for pricing, only a guide of course. I think the different levels are, Fair, Good, & Very Good. I think there should be 5 levels.
FAIR,...GOOD,....VERY GOOD,.....FAR-OUT,.....& WOW.

NADA is good for averages. There will always be cars outside the averages on both ends. This appears to be one. I only shared it to point out that the values discussed were outside that range.
At the end of the day, the car is worth what the buyer and seller agree it's worth. If both are happy with the transaction, it's a good deal.
Personally, I wouldn't pay a substantial premium for the a car that's better than original and I couldn't drive because it's too nice. That said, I'm glad there are people who will because it means that cars like this exist.Comment

Doug I tend to agree on a couple of points specifically the NADA comment. We all need a " gauge " or guide if you will to establish an average purchase / sell price for our cars.
The other method is to have our classics appraised by a reputable company every couple of years especially if we have work / restoration done to them.
Although this one is completely done( top to bottom )
I too wouldn't purchase it to NOT drive itDano Calgary,Alberta Canada
