electrical issues in my 2006 F150

On Sunday while out my fuel gauge stopped working it pegged all the way to the left. (when the key is off it moves to the right to its normal resting place). I filled up the truck no change. Got home and my homelink garage door opener would not work, vanity mirror lights dont work and when sitting in car the map lights wont come on, the overhed lights work when you open the door.

Can not find any reference to what fuse any those items are connected to.

I cleaned my battery posts and checked for ground wire problems nothing stands out.
    Thanks for any help...

I have a Ford "Wiring Diagrams" book for Robin's 2010 Escape. Most of these schemes are the same; carried over for many years.

I'm in the 'Interior Lamps' section (89-1) which shows that LH and RH Vanity Mirrors are connected together. Your Front Interior/map lamps assembly has a switch that's fed from two places. One is from those vanity mirrors feed, and the other is from the 'Interior Lighting (FET that dims)' which also feeds the front interior lamp and the cargo lamp.

The Vanity Mirrors are fed thru a 'Battery Saver Relay' contact of which the coil is energized by some kind of "logic" module.

BINGO! All of these lamps have a common ground connection (S900), then that wire goes through another plug (C124-10) and on to G301 ground.

I never did find the gauges. You need to get a wiring diagram for your vehicle. It shows the layout and where to find connections. - Dave

Not the same brand but had a similar problem on one of my old trucks. I looked down at a traffic light to find the Temp, Fuel, and Tach all pegged at max. I was only a 1/2 mile from the house so drove it home.

Like you I cleaned the connections at the battery but no luck. Took the main ground loose on the fender well and cleaned it. I also installed a star washer to help bite into the metal because the paint there looked pretty thick. That fixed it. My brother still owns the truck and 20 years later the problem hasn't come back (believe me he would call me if it did).

Although you've checked the ground - hope you find a simple fix too.

Thanks Guy's, Dave I found a 2005 F250 diagram 89-1 & 89-2 that shows the vanity lights with ground going to g201 and it says see diagram 10-27. Can you tell me the general area common ground connection (S900), g201, g301 etc... might be.

        Thanks again

The problem you describe sounds like the instrument control module. Need to start by scanning B codes.

B codes are the body control module. This is the area of your problems.

Thanks, I was thinking maybe it was something like that or maybe in the ignition switch as when you turn the key on the gauge goes below empty. I checked all of the ground locations and there was no issues. I will have to wait to deal with it when I get back my income tax.

Is there a way to test it before spending money on a new part?

                          Body control module

I have been trying to price a new or used Body control module and can not find one. ( I thought I could plug a new in and if it fixed the problem that would be good if not I could return it.) I do have question, does it need to be programmed by a Ford dealer? I know it is behind the rear seat and I have watched a video on how to remove the seat back.

I would try unplugging the one you have, look inside the plugs for corrosion then plug it back in again. Sometimes, reseating the contacts is all it takes.

These modules normally do not need programming. Just be sure you get one for your country because different countries have different safety requirements for lighting, etc.

Dealerships and bone yards should have these modules (or they can order them). Yours has a Ford part number on it. - Dave

I was able to get behind the seat yesterday and I unplugged the module (it is tagged Body control security module) plugged it back in and it had no effect. it was as clean as a whistle and no moisture anywhere. Can I unplug the POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE PCM electrical connecter under the hood without any computer issues and see if it will reset.
