    1959 Cadillac Coupe De Ville

In addition to Bill Pugnetti owning that beautiful '60 Squarebird featured in Our Rides Forum for the Squarebirds 2012 Calendar for the month of May, and his '61 Fordabaker, he also owns a Caddy! Here is what he had to say about his '59 Caddy Coupe De Ville and a pic of it. She is a beauty!

"Also working on 1959 Cadillac 2dr. A stumbled upon chicken coop find for $2100. Wasn't shopping for one but at that price I went for it. My first GM car. Aired up tires, charged battery and was good for a drive home. Plastic cover on original seat. Six way power seat works as do power windows. Had electric shop fix non-working wipers, license light fixture, and replaced non-working original power antenna with after market one. Radio (AM) works. Converted to alternator and installed new radiator. Changed trans fluid, it shifts fine. Changed out well rusted dual 2" exhaust (only 2"!!!) with 2.5" and Magnaflow (removed heat riser) is much better. In shop this week getting A/C."

Serious Detroit Iron. Beautiful and bold as brass. I can hear the radio playing 'Little Sister' by Elvis Presley or 'Take Good Care of my Baby' by the Shirelles.''

Look how looooooooong that quarter panel is. Now imagine the dies that made them in HUGE presses...

      Cadillac findings

There was some "discovery" invloved after buying Cadillac. Always loved the 59 fins-chrome-excessiveness though had not even sat in one before (Ford guy me) finding it x-chicken coop.

Were made in two lengths. This is short one at 18ft 9in.
      Has 4-speed automatic. I expected it was a 3-speed.
Seems to corner and brake better than I remember stock big Fords and Mercs of same era.
Highway mileage runs 2-3mpg better than the 60 Tbird. Though it needs premium and Tbird is fine on regular.
Front seat is quite comfortable, but rear is most uncomfortable of any car I can remember.
Trunk has remote release via buttom in glove box. Didn't know that was done in 1950s.

Can be a hazard even when driven easy and legal:
      > While driving North on I-5 in Washington state in slow lane. A guy pulls onto shoulder, drives up beside Caddy and is taking photos of it while he drives on shoulder. Fortunately his car stayed under control (sorta) and there was no accident.
      > While driving in town we went by a Pizza shop. Delivery boy was leaving with stack of about 7 to 10 Pizzas. Caddy caught his eye, he walked into side of parked car and he and Pizzas took a fall.
