I have received many emails and phone calls from family and Forum members around the world checking to see if I was okay and had sustained any damage from that storm. This in regards to the tornadoes that hit Dallas yesterday. We did not get anything from that at all. The closest that got to us was probably just south of Waco. Dallas is about 300 miles to the north of San Antonio and about a 5 hour drive. So that was a good distance away, thank goodness. Thank you very much for your concern.

So yes, I did survive the storm, but not the flood. I woke up this morning about 06:45 with a wet back. At first I thought I was sweating, but I soon found out that my waterbed was the one that was "sweating" It had sprung a leak and was spewing its guts out all over my bedroom carpeting... So my bedroom and part of my dining room is flooded. I eventually got the waterbed drained and out the door, and the liner out. Now I am working on getting the water vacuumed up... That was my LAST waterbed... and the second time I had a bladder leak on me, but the first one was not to bad. This was a flood!

Glad the tornados had no effect on you…and sorry about the water bed! I wonder if homeowners insurance will cover any water damage.

Ray I too am glad that you missed the tornadoes as many were not so lucky. Thanks for the chuckles as when you wrote " not the first time my bladder leaked " I started to laugh as with our agewell let's not go there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Look at you go with the waterbed

Thanks for the comments, guys! Marcelo mentioned insurance coverage for a water bed leak/rip. Initially, I was led to believe that my home insurance would cover a leak or ripped water bed bladder. So I filed a claim. While the water recovery team was here siphoning up the water, I got a phone call from my insurance company telling me that my policy did not cover damage due to a water bed bladder leak or rip. So the expense of recovering from this will have to be borne by me... The company I am using to dry up the water is working with me, and I will just have to see how I come out.

I was not going to comment further on this, but got to thinking that I should warn those of you who have a water bed to check your home insurance company to see if you have coverage if your water bed bladder ever leaks or breaks on you.... I have had a water bed for about 30 years. The first bladder lasted for about 25 years! It eventually got a small leak around the goose neck where you fill it up and drain it. I was able to get a hose into it quickly and drain it without any damage. However this bladder, only 3-5 years old, split open at the head of the bed on the top and once it let go, by the time I was able to run a hose inside and get it to start draining, about 1/3-1/2 of the water had already spilled out on my carpeting and spread. As soon as I got the bladder out of the bed and the liner, I started vacuuming up water with a large wet vac, but knew I was going to need professional help. However, the water recovery team with their specialized equipment was able to siphon much of it up. They left this afternoon, with a big de-humidifier running, and several blowers to dry out the room. They think they might be able to save my carpeting. A lot will depend on what they find over the next few days as to the full extent of the damage.

So glad to know you missed the tornadoes....& survived the flood.....albeit a self inflicted flood.
Don't know what it is about you Texans but I'm sure your mother would have told you NOT to wear your spurs to bed....especially in a WATER BED.

I KNEW it was something like that, Lex. Spurs, six shooters, or a comb in his back pocket. When I asked Ray about the comb, he asked me what I THOUGHT he wore to bed. Well, I got this visual which included a smokin' señora with a fan and one of those high hairdos held together with combs, then I quickly changed the subject.

I see some of you have been having a lot of fun with this! First of all it was not me that left my spurs on. It was my girlfriend... She always wears her spurs when she goes "riding", as any good cowgirl would... But, apparently, that is one of the things that her Mother forgot to tell her, when she was growing up, to take her spurs off at bedtime!

Secondly, as far as Yellowbird is considered, the tornado activity hit east Dallas and not in his area, as far as I know. He should be okay.

Well now I know a second precaution for wearing spurs. The only one I ever knew about was "don't squat with your spurs on".
