another '58: almost ready for paint!

Well it was painted already....until I used the wrong clear coat and then had to soak the body in mineral spirits and start over......

    Stay tuned!

I'm building a model of my car when it left the factory.

Red with a white hardtop....black and white interior.

Dont ask me what words I said this evening when I committed the grave mistake of mixing paint products that werent designed for each other..... lesson LEARNED the HARD way!

Hi Greg! That is going to be pretty neat when you get it finished. You need a Tbird JR car to match your Tbird! They can be pretty expensive and they are around still though. Check out Lee Exline's website. He restores and sells JR cars of numerous makes, including Squarebirds and other Tbirds.

Maybe the next project will be a '58 JR car?? I would love to have a '59 JR car painted just like Rose! But they don't come cheap!

        done.

My wife likes this model car better than my real car.

I'll admit, it's a great color combination. The camera made the red look more "orange" than it actually is.

After a LOT of searching I got a '66 Thunderbird kit!

A project for this winter (about 6+ months away for me..heheheh)

Maybe we could have a model face-off or a calender with models??

I chased up a bunch of Monograms ī58 birds on Ebay a few years ago. One version looks just like Ruth, all red, one mint green, one light blue ( Ricky Valens La Bamba ) and one purple with extra parts so I can do a very odd & wild custom version if I like. The roof is a piece of itīs own so building a cab is easy as well. The base is all the same, and I thought I build myself some different versions for fun. Only problem is I never have the time to start building

I've got a couple of those models too, but I think you'd only be able to make 1 good car between them. Since I got my 1:18 scale die cast '60 convertible, the desire to finish them has waned considerably.

                  Models

Snapped a pic of my old models. They're '58 but ...I think one was LaBamba and the other was Elvira. Very dusty

oh dang.... I HATE it when my models get dusty.

The red T-bird now sits inside a clear plastic case...

WOW Greg - what a great job !!!!!! Such attention to detail - the front emblems on the fender - the chrome trim on the console. NICE.

I have one of those '58 2 'n 1 Monogram kits - been opened but the plastic bags inside are still sealed. Looks fine but the box is faded. There are 2 decal sheets - one may be an extra one? from an old Charger that I did years ago - has a few decals cut out. I know I'll never get around to it. If someone wants it for shipping costs just ask.

I did a 1/32 Aurora kit to match my car when I made my clock. They are no where near as nice as the Monograms but fit my clock project better.
