I understand wire wheels are quite popular, but personally, I donīt realy get going by them. And cleaning?

In the mid 1970s I got into motorcycling. At that time, all bikes came with wire wheels from the factory. Aftermarket companies like Lester, Morris and even Carrol Shelby were selling solid, cast wheels by the ton. The motorcycle companies caught on and started putting such wheels on the bikes from the factories by 1980. Ironic?

With spoked wheels for cars, some caution is in order. The spokes have to be heavy (thick) enough so as to hold the trueness of the wheel and not require work every so often, or alignment etc. The Squarebird is a relatively heavy car, so it puts more stress on the wheel than, say, a Baby Bird.

Additionally, you have to run tubes as well as a band inside to make sure the ends of the spokes do not rub thru the tube (or put some kind of protective coating on the ends).

Luckely, My heart is already lost for steelwheels with hubcaps. I just love them. Period!
