    Swing-away steering wheel

I've been struggling with restoring operation of the swing-away steering wheel in my '66 T-bird. It worked when I first got the car. But then everything in the car was disassembled. Although I was fairly disciplined about bagging and tagging all parts, sometimes the odd part slipped through the net. Case in point is the nylon(?) locater spacer shown in the diagram below. I do remember seeing this item, but it must have been lost when we packed up and moved to our new house 300 miles away. I have been able to make all the adjustments for the slider mechanism that moves the steering column, but it refuses to work with the column attached. I can't imagine what the spacer locater's function is that makes it work. Have not been able to find a replacement part anywhere online.

If I can't fix it I'm just going to not have swing-away as a feature. It's not necessary to drive the car.

    Any comments welcome.

    Cheers,
    Richard
