My 65 has the Edelbrock 1406 carb, factory A/C. Idle drops too low with A/C on, especially with lights on at night. I see Edelbrock sells a part 8059, a bracket and solenoid for this purpose, but want $250, which seems excessive. Did the car originally have one of these? It did not have the original carb when I bought it.

Anyone added an idle increase solenoid to an A/C car with the Edelbrock 1406 carb?

The original carburetor had an anti-stall dashpot but it was not electrically driven. On Thunderbirds that I owned that had air I just had to set the idle higher than normal in summer when I used the air and set it to normal idle when I didn't need the air. Like you I would not pay $250 for one. I would look for an aftermarket one and make it work. There are a number of them on Ebay.

Thanks, the bracketry will be a pain to make, but I will find one.. I assume I can just tap into the wire that turns on the compressor to enable it?Comment

eBay has an interesting one for $13.45 (free shipping):

I would connect it to my compressor clutch wire (with a small fuse to protect the wire). - DaveMember, Sons of the American Revolution
