On a '66 the interior lights are controlled by push button switches on the forward part of the door jambs. Closing the door pushes the switch in, disconnecting the lights. I would hazard a guess that the same switch also registers a door ajar signal if the door isn't fully closed against the push button. Maybe one of the switches is bad. Hope that is helpful.

Part of the " highway convenience package " . Flashes when the door is open . There is a small trigger arm on the the latching mechanism inside the door by the outside door handle . Option in '64, '65 and '66 , Perhaps '67 and on but not sure .

You could have a broken switch or this plastic part:

Some confusion here as to the courtesy light or the door ajar flashing light. Can you confirm which light you are having problems with Larry .

i'm speaking of door ajar light on the convenience package on a 64 bird. mine just started to stay lit all the time. the only way to turn it off is to disconnect the battery. sorry for the confusion. thanks larry.

You will have to remove the door panel and look for a wire going to the door locking mechanism . try to just remove the wire from the small contact that goes onto the latching mech. This should make the light go out and then fix it at some future point when you have an idea of how it works .

btw, both doors will have this wire to latch .
