    1966 Windscreen Washer Pump Differences...

Tom ~ scumdog from The Land Of The Long White Cloud sent me an email and pix about this. Those of you who own a 1966 Flairbird probably should know this.
"Hi Leonard and Ray,I had to buy a new pump for the ‘66, got one from Birds Nest and while the sellers of these pumps say they fit from ‘61 to ‘66 I found the single mounting hole as further out than the original ‘66 pumps. Plus the front also differed as per pic. I had to drill another hole about 1/4” furtherout than the original hole in the inner fender, I was reluctant to do that and a tad disgruntled.. Thought I’d let y’all know for future reference!" Here are a couple of pix...

Thanks Ray, however I'd better clarify - it was not JUST Birds Nest that advertised these pumps as fitting '61 to '66 Thunderbirds, other suppliers did likewise.

Note that the genuine one is shown as a '62 part but the repro one is shown as a '61, maybe there was a subtle change made in '62?

Also note the brass earth strap is on the rear of the '66 but on front of the '61.

In the end I drilled that new hole!

According to the Ford parts book there was a change made midway through 1962 and up to 1964. Whether that changed the mounting holes is unclear but I doubt it. I've swapped out many original pumps over the years and haven't had any fitment issues. Your original pump has a Lincoln part number (C2VB). That's not unusual as many parts were shared by Thunderbirds and Lincolns. The C1AZ pump is listed as the correct pump for '65 & '66. I suspect that the issue is just another in a long line of foreign manufacturing screw ups.
