Removing a Power Steering Pump On A Non Air 63?

Gentlemen, I really do enjoy this site and it's nice to find others with the same interest. But, as usual I have yet another lame question.

I'm sure this isn't as hard as I think it should be but I want to go about the right way without messing something up.

So, here I go. I have a 63 non air car and I am wanting to get the power steering pump off. I loosened the two bolts that attach to the water pump, disconnected the return line drained some fluid and stopped. I am looking at the bolts that hold the pump to the brace are behind the pulley and have called a time out.

Any help in the direction that I should be taking would be most appreciated.

I'm not sure I understand the problem. The power steering pump is only held in place by the two bolts; the stationary bolt and the adjuster bolt. Both of those should come right out and the pump will be free. You don't need to remove the pump from the bracket. Take it off as a unit. Once it's off the car you can remove the bracket.

Much thanks for your help, OK there are 3-9/16" bolts holding the pump on to the bracket and with all of them loosened up they hit the back of the pulley, there are clearly 3 of them attaching it to the bracket. I had read someones post a while back and they were having a time with this too. Is it possible that the pulley needs to come off? At this point I can't figure out another way. I am planing on taking off the pump and bracket as I am cleaning up these and other parts so that I can paint them. Just wondering if the difference in the years of cars we both have would make things different....

You do need to remove the pulley to separate the pump from the bracket. It's not difficult. Just remove the pulley bolt and the pulley should come off fairly easily. You don't need any sort of puller. At most you may need to wedge a screwdriver behind it to pry it off.
