    Ball Joint Boots

My new ball joints came with the plain rubber boots. I also can find after market boots in many sizes.

But researching in the Technical Library I found a picture of a different style of ball joint boot and wanted to know if anyone has any further information as it looks to be a hard plastic boot?

Wondering if that style is to hold the rubber boot in place to help keep the grease inside?

Ball joints don't need a hard plastic piece. That looks like a shipping piece.

Sorry I was not clear but that picture is from Squarebirds.org Technical library.
If it's a shipping piece why is it pictured installed on the car?
      That's my question.

If you look at the last picture in the article it explains that it's a nylon grease retainer that replaces the rubber one.

Thanks John. I will re-read that as I think a grease retainer would be a good idea. Hopefully there is some information about where to get it.
Well as always it has no further information so no luck in finding these.

I will search some and see if they show up.
