Is the electric wiper kit from Ecklers a good option for a 1960 Sq bird? Is it difficult to install?

David, I do not know a thing about an electric windshield wiper kit from Ecklers. IF it is this one, then it is an excellent electric windshieled wiper kit. THIS is what I had on my 1959 Squarebird and what many others on this Forum have bought and used and it is still on the market. I just spoke with them, and what I did NOT know is that it also works on the 1955-57 Babybirds besides the 1958-1960 Tbirds. They do not make a model for any of the Tbird years after that.
New Port Engineering - 636-239-1698 - Still available!
1955-1960 Clean Wipe Electric Wiper Drive
$279.95
Get the extension shaft if you want to use your OEM knob.
Check this out in the TRL and do a Ctrl F on your keyboard and type in electric wipers... Up will come a lot of info on it, and installing it... Along with a lot of other links regarding the wipers and washers. Clicking on this link should take you to it also...

The best one I've found so far comes from:
jplstreetrods.com
JPL
2681 Brodhead Rd, Aliquippa, PA 15001
(724) 375-3940
I have purchased wiper kits from them in the past. Call them. I think their over-the-counter price is cheaper than their offerings on eBay AND they offer free shipping.
Also... Get the 'interval wiper' with a contact for an electric washer, and 'handle extension'. I love how they work and my dash looks stock. - DaveMember, Sons of the American Revolution

David:
I concur with Ray, the Newport conversion worked well on a '60 Bird.
I add my caution from an earlier post - Wiper cables - Squarebirds, Rocketbirds, and Fifties/Sixties Ford Discussion Forum. A successful conversion looks beyond just replacing the vacuum motor with an electric one. If no one has been looking at the wiper transmission system and cables in 60 years, then do so and be ready for what you find.

The electric wiper sold by JPL IS the New Port Engineering "Clean Wipe" Electric Motor! An advantage of buying from JPL and not directly from New Port Engineering is a cost break given by JPL. The cost directly from the manufacturer is about $20 higher and I do not know if that includes shipping, which Dave says is free from JPL. I do not know the cost for the additional components from New Port Engineering, but here is the JPL breakdown below....
Cost from JPL for these 4 components below - $429.92
New Port Engineering 12 Volt Windshield Wiper Motor for Ford Thunderbird
- Wiper Motor Year 1958-1960 (NE5860TB)
- Shaft Extension
- Intermittent Switch
- Washer Pump Kit.
Cost from JPL for these 3 components below - $369.93
New Port Engineering 12 Volt Windshield Wiper Motor for Ford Thunderbird
- Wiper Motor Year 1958-1960 (NE5860TB)
- Shaft Extension
- Intermittent Switch
Cost from JPL for these 2 components below - $289.94
New Port Engineering 12 Volt Windshield Wiper Motor for Ford Thunderbird
- Wiper Motor Year 1958-1960 (NE5860TB)
- Shaft Extension
Note: The cost of the 1955-1957 version (NE5557TB) is the exact same price breakdown as the 1958-1960 version. I suggest that you do add the Shaft Extension to the kit, as I and others have, and I also added the Intermittent Switch. I don't remember if the Washer Pump Kit was also put on my Bird. I know when I bought it, it was not on the car.

Soooo... bone yards crush washer bottles with electric motors. daily. Pick one up with the connector. Junk yards normally cut the wires with the connector intact because it's easier and faster.
Connect one wire of the washer motor to ground and the other to the Brown wire of the new wiper controller. Make sure your polarity is correct, or the motor will run backwards.
Another 'mistake' people make is to install the dash knob 'in too far'. Leave enough room so the knob can be pushed in to start the washer motor.
Call JPL. I believe they offer free shipping on orders over $200. If memory serves me, JPL's order gets drop shipped from New Port, which may be the reason why the reduction in cost. - DaveMember, Sons of the American Revolution
