Is this a new cap or an old one. If it's an old cap I suggest that you buy a new one. They are very inexpensive. Make sure it's vented.

We share the exact birthday. 1-10-1948.
My new cap is very very tight also. The gas tank is new too. Perhaps that combination has a bearing on it.
