Squarebird window motors used four wires all with bullet connectors from the factory. Looks like someone did some modifications to make it three wire.

SO the 3 wire plug in is attached to the motor and it should have been 4 separate bullet connectors? Must have been a different yr or after market motor installed. the green wire is hot at all times. thanks KENN

Check your window motor, Kenn. Does it have two, three or four wires coming out? The original had four because each field (red=up & yellow=down) had its own coil, separate from the green armature power. In 1963 motors, the green wire is not necessary.

Confusing? Check out this wiring diagram... Notice that 1959-'62 window motors use 4-wire motors. 1963 motors use 3. New motors use 2 because they have permanent magnets and the switch crosses the power and ground wires.

Thanks. Red,yellow n black leave the motor and join in a molded plug. The other end is spliced into factory wiring. the bullets have been cut off. There are no numbers visible. DSCI0018.JPGDSCI0019.JPG Does this look like Ford or aftermarket? KENN

Difficult to say Kenn, because Ford never made their own motors. Your wiring is consistent with John's advice and it agrees with the 3-wire motors used in 1963 Thunderbirds.

Truth be told, if I were to change window or seat motors I would look for 2-wire (permanent magnet) motors because the old 4-wire and 3-wire motors are a LOT more expensive. In order to use new 2-wire motors in ANY year Ford I would also install two relays. The relays offer ELECTRICAL INTERLOCK which guarantees that a short circuit cannot happen if two kids push UP and DOWN buttons at the same time (like one from the driver's door and the other from the back seat switch). Relays are cheap and they plug-in to their pigtails. OEM relays cost over US$50/each whereas modern relays cost under five bucks/each. As long as they are hidden (like in door panels) who would know any different! - Dave
