Heater is always on

IMG_20190711_090224.jpg I replaced the Ranko heater control with an external water shut-off for the heater. The upper hose out of the fire wall goes to the water pump, the lower hose goes from the intake manifold to the shut-off and then goes into the heater. The heater is always on. I even took a zip tie and and zip tied the shut-off so water would not go through. Obviously I'm doing something wrong because it gets really hot.

It appears that you have the water valve and hoses correct. Do you know if the door is closing all the way. The diagram shows the a/c configuration.

Not sure but if no water can go through I'd think it wouldn't heat up. I'll check the door tonight.

Just thinking here, if the water is being pushed by the water pump to the heater wouldn't the water shutoff be on that hose?

It's just the opposite. Water is pushed from the intake and goes out to the water pump.

Are you sure you installed the valve in the right direction. The arrow should point toward the firewall.

It's facing the other way but i had it zip tied shut tight. There's an arrow showing shut. I cut the zip tie and disconnected the water to the heater just to see. I'll flip it around. IThanks for the advice, again...

I disconnected the water lines going to the heater. it still gets hot in the cabin so obviously it's engine heat. Very warm above my feet on the firewall. The center console gets warm too. There's a couple factory holes in the firewall. 390. Is there supposed to be some insulation in there somewhere? Pretty annoying, any drives over 10 miles and it's awful.

I guess i need to insulate my firewall. None there.
