I have the step down type which it says to use a 3 jawed puller for removal. I'm not sure where the jaws grab. The "step" appears too narrow to hold the jaws. Is there a shop made tool someone has figured out? Thanks.

Where does it say you need a puller? Normally they just slide off by hand.

I'm looking at page 1-31 of the 59 shop manual. "#5 under cylinder front cover" calls for Ford tool 7675-N. I did try to pull it off by hand but no go.Comment

I've done a number of '59's and don't ever remember using a puller. All the sleeves I've removed from 352's and 390's are a smaller diameter where they go into the timing cover just like the one in your picture. Did you try tapping it with a rubber mallet to see if it loosens up.

You're welcome. I've never seen a FE sleeve that needed a puller. I'm not sure why the manual has that shown.

I know why he can't get it off. The woodruff key is still in place. Look at pictures 15, 16 & 17:

Take the key out that the sleeve will slide right off. As John said, NO special tools are necessary.Member, Sons of the American Revolution

And the sleeve itself is slotted suggesting that it could have come off with the key in place. Perhaps that is why the manual suggests a puller is needed.Comment
