Default Squarebird Web Space

Hi Coral,
Now that I'm a member with a screenname and mail, how do I access my free web space? I want to put my own picture files there, with the freedom of showing them or not. I may want to change them too, from time to time.

I like using squarebird's web space because my files will be there regardless of what computer I'm on (or in case my computer's hard drive crashes and burns).

Thanks in advance. - Dave

In 2005-6 I made use of the space provided. I recall that

* I had another username and password (not the same as what gets me onto the Forums

* I had an ftp address (http://www.squarebirds.org/users/johng/)

* I then used a file transfer utility (there are lots) for ftping files to and from the Squarebirds server where I had 20 Mb of space.

This information was provided by Alexander. Our last communication was in Feb of 2006.

Since that time, Squarebirds has changed servers and we do not have an active webmaster, so I can not do any of those things.

Any help towards getting things back to where they were is much appreciated!!

John

I just sent a request to John Peters for personal web space access. I am sure he will give us the correct protocol.

So, JohnG, did you loose any thing during the move? Did you have your files backed up? How long was the server down for? - Dave

They changed servers a couple of years ago. Don't think I lost anything but never had access again either... None of the info Alexander gave me (username and password) work any longer...

The information about the webspace access can be handled through Driller http://squarebirds.org/vbulletin/member.php?u=499
Alexander's post is available to review http://squarebirds.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=1921

I am led to believe that IE is the only browser that will work, but I do not know for sure.

Thanks, Cathie, for posting that information. Yes, you have to use IE to FTP from. Here is some additional information that will explain this and also some additional things.

JohnG, I will contact driller to see why you cannot access your web space... You are set up correctly, as I recall.

I PM'ed him four days ago, but haven't heard anything back.

Ray, could you contact him for me, please?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Dave,

"driller" as his user id indicates, might be out in the wilds drilling wells again, since he has not replied. He could be drilling in your backyard, or drilling in Timbuckto, or anywhere in between. When he is traveling or out in the wilds of the world, there are times when he is in locations that do not have internet access.

I will send him an email and see if he has seen your PM. Hopefully, he will get back with your shortly.
