I did end an email to the owner to ry and confirm what it looks like which is a 58. He says the data plate is a 59 but the telltale was the car has rear coil springs.

This is a 58 bird with a 59 vin number??

This kinda reminds me of my '58 that I bought back in '94 and it was CA state titled as a '59. The car had a '59 grille, but all else was '58 including the VIN#. So I was able to re-title it with the State as a '58.

So this ebay car has '58 door louvers, 58 grille, 58 tail lights, coils; so it is a 58 for sure. This would indicate that at some time the data plate had been replaced to the 59 plate. Unless of course the ebay seller has misread the numeral 8 as a 9, which is entirely possible. It would be fun to take a close look at the 9, or maybe the rivets holding the plate on as well. The only difference in the two years VIN#s is the 8 and 9. The '60 model year changed the VINs to a different alpha/numeric sequence.

I would suggest to solve the mystery, that a good samaritan local dedicated bird dog go stop by for a visit and check things out. Do we have any good bird dogs in Oklahoma? The VIN#s are also stamped on the frame cross member and the passenger side frame trailing member. Removing the engine is really the only way to discover the cross member number tho. Maybe we'll never discover the answer to this mystery, but it is fun to keep guessing.

Lightbulb

Well the good news is this car has no motor, only the tranmission sits in her now. That should make it easier for one of us looking along the common chassis vin# locations....
