The clocks are run by a spring. If the spring is wound they will still work whether or not there's power. Once the spring is unwound if there's no power they will stop. Yours must've been stuck and moving it freed it up.

Haha, the car or the clock because I'm starting to think that the car could be debatable.

The old clocks run on what is called a "clock spring" Basically there are a set of points, much like ignition points, inside the clock. Whenever the points close, it puts voltage to a coil, which acts as a magnetic field, and forces the points to open, against the tension of the clock spring. As the clock runs, the spring pulls the points together and the cycle repeats.
Okay, bottom line...If the clock keeps stopping, the points are probably corroded, again much like the ignition points get pitted. Take the clock apart and clean the points. Many times this will keep the clock running.

gauge cluster removal, need to find burning wire.

Chris, if you are going to work on the clock, you might take a look at the Technical Resource Library and check out the clock repair instructions in the TRL. Click on the link to it below my signature element, and when in the TRL, push the Ctrl and F (for Find) keys and type in clock. It will take you right to it. You will find two links, the first one for the '58-'60 Squarebird clock and down below another link. Try the first one, and go down to Page 28, as I recall. You might want to print those pages out. It may be a help to you in working on that clock.
