Default Ford O Matic 2 Speed Speedometer Gear

I'm searching for a speedometer gear for my 59 Fairlane 292 CID, Ford-o-Matic 2 speed tranny. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jim

Jim, have you tried Rock Auto? They probably have it. Go to http://www.rockauto.com/ bring up your Ford year, model, and engine and see if they have it. They probably will, and if they do, if you order from their web page you get a 5% discount for being a Forum user. That discount code can be found in the Advertisements Forum on here..

I checked a few places including Rock Auto and did not have any luck. It appears to be a tough to find part. I spoke to a guy (Martin's 310-679-5697) out in California who has been handling used parts for some 50 years and he told me he never sold one. Jim

How about this one. This is for a 2.91 axle. A 3.10 axle has 18 teeth.

I saw that one and tried to contact him to verify it would fit. The E Bay response was "We're sorry we couldn't find an answer for you. Unfortunately, this seller is not able to respond to your question. We suggest reviewing the item again to see if your answer is in the seller's listing." I believe the gear comes in from the outside of the tailshaft. I have a photo ofwhat the opening looks like but don't know how to post it here.

It depends on whether you have a 2.91 axle or 3.10. Do you know which axle you have.

I marked the inside of the rim and proceeded to turn the driveshaft by hand. I counted 1.75 rotations of the universal joint to one rotation of the tire.

Here's another one. 17 teeth for a 2.91 or 3.00 axle. If you have a 3.10 axle you need 18 teeth.

The data plate will tell you what axle you have.
