    Radio conversion

Looking at the radios that look original, for our squarebirds, it says that some dash modifacations are needed. Does anyone have any input in the mods , what exactly needs to be done, have you done it , etc ?

The ones that are advertised by a company ( classic radios ? i think) that look like the originals, but haveam/fm/cassettes or i think even cd's. I am open for suggestions of any kind, by others who have replaced thier radios at all.

you can go an easier route by installing one in the glove compartment. They even have them with remote controls.
Fairly inexpensive when compared to retrofitting your existing radio.

that's what I did. I also hid speakers under the dash tight to the firewall. You can't see any of it, but it sure sounds good.

I built my own hidden stereo, before they sold hidden stereos. All you need is to find a stereo with a traditional volume knob that rotates. The rest of the controls can be accessed via the stereo remote. There are no modifications to the dash. You need to cut apart a stock radio, but if you find a cheap broken one, you will not feel guilty.

                    RE: Radio conversion

I bought one of those for my olds mobile....you want it .

I was never happy with the quality or performance I got from it.

If you want a 58 am radio to play and cut around with I have one in my storage shed. I also have a really nice face plate that was around the radio.

                      Thanks !

I appreciate that ! Not sure what I will do, maybe like my friend tarps, and just hide one in the dash....I am going to replace the dash wiring harness too, might just wait until that is done to do something about the radio.

I have one of those radios. You do have to cut the dash. They give you a brushed faceplate. I have an extra stock one. I was going to use the one they supply as a template to cut the (extra)stock 60 faceplate. So, by rights it "should" look fairly stock. Speaker placement is throwing me though. You found room under the dash?????????? I am working on an extra pair of kick panels. I was going to put them in there (cringe cringe) I hate that showing though. I'd love to hide em. I don't mind the radio being there as long as my stock face plate will work. If not, the glove compt is a good idea.

                          Thanks,
                          John
