    Golde Top "Panel Lifters"

Frank - Thunderdownunder, is looking for a pair of "panel lifters". Anyone know where he can find them? I suggested he contact the companies listed in this Forum who have parts for their cars with Golde Tops. Like BMW, Porche, VW. Here is what Frank had to say.

"Ray, would you know off hand who would have the sunroof "panel lifters" I have a pic of it, as you turn the handle to open the panel drops as to slide, the when slide close you turn the handle and the panel will lift shut, I have on one on the drivers side that is bent, thus not lifting to full close, would you know where I could buy a pair from?"

Here is that part that Frank sent me a picture of that he is looking for.

Thanks, Jon, do you know or anyone know which year and issue? If anyone has it, could you scan it and send me the article? That would be a great addition to the TRL, since parts for the Golde Top are hard to come by.

I think I was wrong about Frank needing the whole set. I think it was just the lifters that were for sale and in that picture. I see they are no longer available. It did not say they were sold, but I guess they were. I also see that he said he had them made from brass. Here is that picture from the ad and I gather it is just these "lifters" that Frank needs. Maybe he can take his good one and have someone make him a set from that one.

Ray the VTIC article was printed in the March-April 1992 issue. Pages 24-25. It was written by Leo Gravelle.

I don't have a scanner anymore but I have access to a fax machine if that helps.

Hi Jon, I have an All In One printer, but have never used it as a fax machine. If your fax machine can send fax's as .jpg files, that might do the trick. You could send me page of that article as a test and see if I can get it okay, and I can let you know.

                    Hi Jon,

My number is 210-674-5781, as in my signature element. As for Squarebird ROT information, I think I have that pretty well covered. The glass information, no, not that I can think of.

                        Sunroof Kit of Leo Gravelle

Jon sent me the article from the March-April 1992 Scoop. Leo, who wrote it, has kindly given me permission to use it on the Forum. Hopefully, this will be a help to those in the future who have sun roof problems. I tried to clean this up as best as possible. I realize the pictures are so dark. I do not know if I can lighten them up anymore. You can zoom in on them to enlarge them by using Ctrl +. Here is the article.

Hi Ray, I'm a couple of hours deep in looking through old Golde Top (Sunroof) forum posts. A lot of these post are old, like this one (8 years). Have you recently in the last year or two heard of anyone making parts such as the lifters? If not recently, are Paul Willson, John Draxler, and the California guy Ken? still the best names to find any used parts or overstock of parts? Just curious if anyone else comes to mind. (I know there is always a chance Carl/partsetal may have used pieces.). If you've not heard anything recently, just let me know. I figured I'd ask considering how knowledgeable you have proven to be time and time again. Thanks.

Hi Jim, I do not know who currently might be making Golde Top parts. I would suggest going through the list of those that might be in the Golde Top Forum, and any in the Advertisements Forum and contacting them to see if they are still making parts, or still have any in stock. It is difficult to keep up with that information because it can change quickly. Paul Wilson, Carl Heller, John Draxler, and Ken Harkema in California are still good sources. Ken did have a complete (if I remember correctly) Golde Top for sale, and one minus the parts, also, if memory serves me right. Call him on Monday at 619-462-6478 and see what he has available. Tell him the problem you are having, send him the pix, and see if he has any ideas on how to fix it. Check out the Parts Wanted / For Sale Forum for those who say they have Squarebird parts for sale. You might find one who happens to have Golde Top parts available. They are just so difficult to come by these days. IF you could find a salvage yard with a Golde Top Squarebird on the premises, it would be worthwhile having that C column cut off just to get the Golde Top on it. Then you could salvage the Golde Top parts from it, perhaps refurbish them and re-use them. So many old classic cars are being crushed these days, that it makes finding parts hard to locate. I would suggest you look up as many salvage yards in your State or area and see what you can find... Here is a link that lists every known active salvage yard in every State in this Nation. Click on New York and see what you can find. You may find one of them that happens to Golde Tops on their lots that you can get parts off of, or the C Column off it... https://www.salvage-parts.com/junkyards-in-usa. This is about the best I can suggest... Not many, if any, anymore, seem to be making these parts, because there is little demand for them.. Ray
