Oh I'm dead serious about that one....

I didnt know why there were these two strange light sockets and wiring floating around loose under my console when I first got my car. Good thing I kept that wiring, cuz I discovered the reason for it a couple winters later.

Did you find them for both front and rear ash trays in the center console? Can't wait to check that out. I wonder if it was part of the glove box lighting option? I'd like to see a sales brochure or some other type of literature that lists every possible option for these cars.

        Glovebox Light Question

Rose has both ashtray lights, though they were not hooked up when we were working on the interior. They are now.

Unscrew the rear ashtray bracket, and look for a little metal cylinder that is supposed to hold the lightbulb socket.

The ashtray itself will also have some little holes in a circular pattern that lets a bit of light shine into it.

Mine only had the light on the front ashtray no wire for the back and no light socket on the back ashtray. I used some WD to loosen up the nicotne/ rust goo that was all over the socket, then cleaned it up put a new bulb in it and it works.

Here are some pics of my glove box light.

              The button.

Unfortunately, whomever reupholstered the dash many years ago, not only did they bury the switch, but the material they used was so thick that even though I cut a section out to reveal the button, when I close the door, it does not make contact to shut the light off.

Then put a couple washers under the head. Make sure the washers are slightly larger than the hole so the expansion grounding arms still work. - Dave
