If you want your starter to work its best, run your battery neg to a bolt as close to the starter motor as practical. I run mine to a bell housing bolt.
Run another smaller ground wire from your battery to your chassis, like at the radiator support that's very close to your battery.
Ford grounded the engine as close to the battery as they could to save money. Buy the extra foot or two of copper wire and connect close to the starter motor; that is where the highest current is.
