Do not use a pickle fork. You will damage the housing. Use a tie rod puller like this instead. You can get them at any auto store. Advance Auto and Autozone will loan you one for free.

Gary, glad to help you and I really appreciate John answering your question. Now I also know the right answer! Keep in mind that Rock Auto is one of the few auto parts houses that gives us a discount on our purchases. They are a member of our Forum, and you will find their information in the Advertisements Forum, along with all the other Tbird parts houses. If you do not have a shop manual, you can get that from one of them. Also, you will find the Rock Auto discount code for online orders listed in that Forum also. The wiring diagrams for our Tbirds are in the Technical Resource Library that I already told you about. Good luck with fixing that power steering!

One more thing... If you do not have a free catalog from all those Tbird parts houses listed, call or email them and ask for one. You need it for price availability and cost checking....

There's a place called the Stangersite that rebuilds them for about $90. http://www.stangerssite.com They do great work but they are rather slow. You can try calling them to see what their time frame is but if you need it right away I would try somewhere else.

Dave Dare did the guitar graphics for me. I love the 335's but they are a little out of my price range.

They are not difficult to rebuild but I haven't had much luck with the seal kits they sell. The '60 valves use different seals and spool valve than a '59 so you may have better luck than I had.

Red head steering in Seattle is who I have used for all my steering components including rebuilding the steering box itself. They are the only one I know who cut the power steering cylinder open and rebuild it as opposed to replacing seals. They are not cheap but they are the rebuilder not a remarketer. I like being able to talk to someone.

Do not use a pickle fork. I started to try that but was concerned about ruining my control valve. Penetrating oil, lots of taps and a lot of patience. That's what it took to get mine apart. I got impatient and started whacking pretty good and ended up damaging the threads on the ball stud. Thankfully I was already planning on replacing it.

Once I got the valve out, rebuilding it was a piece of cake. I've got pictures in my suspension rebuild gallery.

You said that Rock Auto is one of the few vendors that offers us discounts. I looked on the Advertisement Forum and found them the only one to be listed with a discount code. Do any of the others offer a discount?

Hi Nyles, Yesss, there is one more that offers us a discount, in the form of free shipping on orders. It is Then And Now Automotive in Massachusetts, and you will find them in the Advertisers Forum. They ask that if you are going to place an order that you do so through a PM from the Forum. That way, they will know that you are a Squarebirds user and that you qualify for free shipping. They are also a member of our Forum, as Rock Auto is. Forum user Lisa Pawlik is your contact.
