vented/unvented?

Please excuse my ignorance but what is the difference in the vented vs. unvented wheels??

Either solid (non) or some have those slots in them. Vented whls came out in the mid-60's. My 65 had them.

The vented wheels were designed to cool the brakes.but if you are running the full wheel covers I don't see how they would help.
