I have started putting my 60 bird dash back in. I cannot figure out how the chrome lighter stays in. I slide it through the anti-rotation keyway fine. Is there a clip of some sort on the backside, behind the dash that secures it? Any pictures?

Here's the picture from the parts manual if that helps you. It's been awhile since I removed one. I thought it was held in place by the outer lighter housing but I may be wrong. Maybe Carl Heller can chime in on that. I'm sure he's removed and installed many of them.

Thanx john. Looks like I am missing part 10917. Would you happen to know what that is made out of? I seem to remember a foam ring that size but I doubt that would hold anything.
Being a Machinist, I can make one I guess."Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming: Wow - what a ride!"Comment

I'm pretty sure that's just a black rubber seal that goes between the bezel and instrument panel. I thought the inner housing goes through the dash with the bezel and is secured in place by the outer housing which screws in place from behind the dash.

Do you have the sleeve that is pictured behind 10917? This sleeve is threaded on the outer end and screws on to the end of the female lighter part. This sleeve tightens and pulls against the dash bezel, holding the lighter in place. Just about anything should work for the gasket or oring pictured. Think it just acts like a cushion.

Ok...I figured it out. Behind the dash is an oblonged sub-plate which the lighter, wiper switch and gen light also goes through. This acts as the backing plate that the spin on collar for the female part of the lighter can draw tight. Thanx for every ones help..."Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming: Wow - what a ride!"Comment
