It looks like a 1960. But I seem to see a SEAM across the top, almost as though it has a Sun Roof ! (??? )

      Welcome back Sandy!

It is a 1960. I don't think it has a sunroof, but it looks like it may have a vinyl roof.

I didn't go anywhere. I've been here, just quiet.
'Ya, I see that! The roof doesn't have the same shine to it - it looks kinda dull.

Is the hood scoop correct? That little chrome splitter in the MIDDLE correct? CXould it be a painting, drawing ? Is it a REAL photo ?

          RE: New Nickelback Album

There is doubt whether Ford ever offered the hood scoop in chrome, though many Squarebirders have chromed theirs in imitation of the 1955-57 chrome scoops. The center spliter of the hood scoop should be natural fininish aluminum as are the grilles of the scoops. The only exterior part of the car that is confirmed to have an optional chrome finsh is the headlight door. These have been found in a Ford box with a unique part number. It may be that these headlight doors may naot have been used when the cars were sold, but used in repair of collision repairs. The advantage of the chrome doors is that they match all colors and would not be painted. This is only a hypothesis. There is no Ford documentation as the thinking behind this.

I think the Nickelback album cover is a real photo that has been touched up. The landscape is eerie. It is hard to place.

The landscape is DEFINATELY from the pen of artist, rather than from film of camera. The chromed leading edge of the hood scoop definately looks stragne to me ~ but...hey...I am no expert of Squarebirds, just an avid admirer. The remainder of the car looks to me to be exact. Did they come with hood scoops, at all? Seems not.

My Dad bought my Mom a 1958 hardtop coupe. Did I ever tell ya that? I don't know the "proper name" for the color, but it was Sky Blue with a white painted roof (2-tone). No Air Cond. My Mom hated it, and it left us in 9 months, for a 1959 Imperial Crown 4-Dr. Hardtop (with A/C and a tire on the trunk lid.)

Hood scoops were one of the defining styling traits of Thunderbirds from 1955 to 1966. They all came with them.

I did not know your family owned a Squarebird. The light blue color in that year was Baltic Blue. The list of 1959 Thunderbird colors is here: http://automotivemileposts.com/paint1959tbird.html .

It wasn't a 1959, it was a 1958 ! (1st year). I think it was called "Azure Blue" but I would not bet any $$ on THAT. I recall my Dad calling it Azure Blue. My Mom hated it because it was a 2-door, and had the big center console and she much preferred a bench seat with a fold down center armrest. The interior was that cloth. I can't recall the color, but the boarder was white vinyl. It had P/S & P/B and roll windows and something called a Town & Country Radio. The antenna was on thedeck lid, center. Big whitewalls. All I recall. Hey, I was 12. It also STALLED a heck of a lot, which really P'ed off my Mom. She nagged my Father until he got rid of it. To me, it seemed as though it came in thru the front door and went out the back door, in time. The Imperial Crown 4- Dr HDT was white with red leather and was HUGE. Mom was very happy with that. It had A/C and Pwr. Seats & Door Locks & Windows and a bench seat.

I love hearing these real life experiences of when the cars were new.

I have seen Town and Country radios, but never on a Squarebird. This another odd thing that Ford did. They never offered this premium radio in their top of the line car. Just like they never offered electric windhield wipers on the Squarebirds.

Oh ya, it HAD T & C Radio. THAT I'd bet my life on. I sat in the front seat and played with it ! Said it in black script lettering on the top chrome bar: town and country in small lowered case letters. I think it was original. The car was in stock, out in the inventory yard when my Dad bought it. (He liked it, and bought it without Mom (A no no) !!

The radio in the 1958-60 Thunderbird was unique to that car. As far as I know, and have ever seen, there is no Town and Country radio that would fit the 1958-60 Thunderbird dash. That being said, I would have never believed that there was a Golde Top Thunderbird made with an electric rather than manual sunroof, until evidence was shown to the contrary. Maybe your car had a prototype Town and Country radio that was never put into regular production. I would have liked to have seen that!

The pushbuttons on all the 1958-1960 Thunderbird radios were chrome. the dial face for 1958 was black. In 1959-1960 the dial face was white.

Yes, the dial face was black, of THAT I am sure, but I actually don't recall the buttons being chrome. They mighta been. I thought that they were off white. There are ALOT of things I don't recall about it, & remember, we had it like 8 months ... maybe 9 the most. I vividly recall it stalled ALOT and Mom hated it, and it was sky blue & white 2 tone and had cloth interior and big whitewalls. Everything else is varying degrees of cloudy memory...
