hey guys,
i am having problems with the instructions for converting to an alternator. none of the instructions are working that are on here so i need help in a major way as i need to get this thing fired up today.
here is the deal. i have a one wire alternator (has batt and ground bolts on back) thats hooked up. voltage regulator is out of car and wires are just sitting there ready to be put together or ran elsewhere etc.
i also have a mini starter, so to my understanding per the instructions for it, it will act as a solenoid. alternator becomes the new voltage regulator.
wiring diagrams are like reading latin to me so that is useless. i need this explained very simply as i am not an electrician by any stretch of the imagination.
i have 6 wires that were attached to the voltage regulator before. one black, one black/yellow, 2 smaller yellow and 2 larger yellows. these yellows were together and one pair went to the ARM the other to Batt. there is also a black looking fuse thing or capacitor looking thing below the regulator originally.
i cant tell if i have the ARM wire that went to the generator connected to the positive side of the alt or if i have the BATT wire connected to it. i read where you can take the Arm wires at the voltage regulator and connect those to the Batt wires there and at that point you would only need to connect one yellow wire that went to generator to alternator as they would be spliced together over at the regulator side. i get generator light on but thats it. that bl/yel wire isnt hooked up to anything on the voltage regulator side. the main issue is i cant figure out how to make sure its wired correctly. i need to use the alternator as my voltage reg and my new starter as the solenoid but i cant fire up the car as i am breaking in the new cam so i must get this right the first time though i spent 8 hrs on it yesterday and gave up. i can take pics i can do whatever i just need some help so i dont have to spend a fortune towing it someplace and getting it wired. i really appreciate any feedback thats very very basic! thanks again.
