    glass grinding

    Hello again!

I was wondering if anyone out there is familiar, or had their windshield ground to take out scratches. I have been looking into it here in cali, but there are mixed reviews. Thanks!!!

Eastwood sells a couple kits for this. One for light duty, and a nastier one for deeper problems.

I used the light duty one a couple summers ago. It worked good at reducing swirlmarks (they made it real hard to see at night with oncoming traffic).

I had a company here in Melbourne do 2 of my cars
One had a deep wiper scratch and they got rid of most of it but at some angles you do get distortion
My Tbird had light scratch which they got rid of but it did have peppering as well which cant be fixed

Not a job I'd tackle with a DIY kit as it could easily go bad

I think my car saw a LOT of gravel roads in Iowa (the car is supposedly originally from there) 50 years ago. The windshield has maybe a dozen little pock marks which will be filled someday by a chip-repair specialist, and a million little "specks" which I just dismiss as "aging gracefully".

I borrowed my Eastwood kit out to a guy with a 50-something GMC 3/4 ton pickup, and he was ecstatic as to how much it improved the haze issues his windshield was suffering from.

And no... I"m not an Eastwood salesman!

          Glass

Thanks for the info guys! I did a lil more research, and most companies advertise glass polishing, but it ends up being a resin fix for chips, once you get into the description.

On a whim I called SAFELITE and they wanted over a grand for a new windshield, but I would have to bring it to their shop, and I would need to get the gasket. I think I will either get the eastwood kit, or get a new windshield down the road.
