now I know why my wife sticks around, to see what I can screw-up next!!
I had Oregon cam grinding regrind my 430 cam last year.worked fine, until a bout Janurary, started to miss very bad. so i messed with the points, installed a used MSD unit, thought it ran okay. But it kept getting worse, so I finally took a compession test, and #5 cylinder was 80#. Removed the valve cover and saw the intake on #5 did not go u[p and down like the reat of the valves did. The lobe was completely flat. so I pulled it down, called Oregon. He said not a good idea to weld up a completely flat lobe, so bought a used 462 camm off ebay. It looked real nice , so I sent it to Oregon with instructions to regrind to Comp cams grind, can't remember the grind#'s. Because it was still within the 1 year warranty, he said he would do it for half, fine with me. They had to weld one of the lobes, and sold me 5 quarts of Brad Pen break-in oil at at total cost to me of $137.--, shipped to mey door. I was happy. Then I get tehcam, tried real hard to install it in my 1959 430. The first bearing journal went in fine , but the second journal wass too big for the front cam bearing!! Did not know Lincoln, in it;s infinite wisdom, made larger bearing journals on the 462. so I took the cam to a local machine shop to turn the bearing journals down to the 430 size. I had TWO heart attacks in the last year, so I try not to let anything bother me too much(don't need another heart attack) One day i will get my "60 Bird running again, and listen to that full-race cam through the lakes pipes, just not today...
