    1960 Thunderbird Clock

    Hey folks!
After all the help you all gave on my wiper motor I need help on the clock in my 60 bird. I kept my wiper motor orig and it is working fine after a rebuild. My clock however I feel I could do and update with possibly an electronic Quartz conversion without loosing much sleep. Does any one have an opinion? Does anyone know of a place that can pull this off for me in High Style?

    Thanks
    Hank:+

    RE: 1960 Thunderbird Clock

    hi
I had this done to my clock (58, black face) last winter by
Autoinstruments.com in Virginia. The clock looks original but
functions perfectly. They also restored the face and hands so it looks like new. Their web site is at

Speedometer Repair Tachometer Clock and Gauge Restoration for Musclecars and Vintage Automobiles

For the fun of it you might try resurrecting your old one before
you pronounce it dead. If you do a search of this site, you will find some instructions on how to do it. There are two issues: getting it going and having it run accurately.

      RE: 1960 Thunderbird Clock

I took the clock to work and got it working! I used light sewing machine oil on critical pivot points and cleaned the contacts on the winding mech. I has been running for 24 hours keeping perfect time.
If you have never been inside one of these clocks, it uses an amazing
set up with a pait of contact points which I assume to eliminate constant drain on the battery. When the contacts close it fires a small solonoid that winds the clock. As the clock moves the contacts again close and it winds again. I think the only real problem was the contacts were dirty.
Imagine that a 45 year old clock that is still tickin'! Boy they dont make um like that anymore. All the moving parts are brass and thank goodness the Insturment Lamps were always installed keeping the Inside perfectly clean..

      Thanks Again
