    cigarette lighter

My cigerette lighter works but when I try to plug in a modern cd player with a modern cigerette plug it doesn't connect.
Is there an adapter or a modification I can make,or do I have to wire in a modern cigerette receptacle?
    thanks,
    Sal

    All the same

These old cigar lighters are still the same today as there were back then, it should work. is there a fuse in the new plug, most of them have fuse's now, check to see if the fuse in the plug is blown.

try the plug in a different car if you have not already done so.

thats about it unless it is just a short plug (shorter then normal) then the only thing you can do is get a new adapter for your CD player.

I checked the fuse and i tried the CD plug in my 2004 and it worked. It may be too short as you suggested. I will try to find a male plug that works and then splice it in,or wire in a hidden female socket to fit new shorter styles.
      Thanks for your input.

I believe there is an inline fuse about 10" from your lighter. I'm not positive, though. Good luck, Franco

Originally there is a little round screw on fuse in back of the lighter.

If the fuse is burned out and you cannot find an original replacement, I would recommend you replace it with a 10 Amp in-line fuse.

I use the cigarette lighter for my cell phone and other modern gadgets all the time. It is the same as the present day lighters/ power supplies.

What was the amp rating on the original fuse?

"Whoever" replaced the original with a 30 Amp inline fuse. Isn't that too high for the lighter?

The fuse on the cigarette lighter is a slow blow type of fuse. I have never seen specifications for it. Judging by the gauge of wire going to the cigarette lighter, I would use a 10 amp fuse, 15 amps tops.

I was thinking 15 Amp, but I'll try a 10 Amp slow blow first.

"Whoever" replaced the fuses in my bird must have been a house electrician. All he knew how to use was 25 and 30 amp fuses all over the place.

                  Thanks

If you are not using the outlet as a cigarette lighter, you do not need a slow blow type of fuse. A regular one will do for your modern electronics charging.

Actually, I don't use it at all. I just wanted it to work, and didn't want it to have an over-amp fuse in it.

I'll just put a regular 10 amp fuse in there and test it a few times. That should do it.
