anyone out there switched the c6 for a tremec am planning to take the tired 390 out of my 66 and replace it with a 428 coupled to a tremec tko500 seems like a fairly straightforward change with the usual unexpected problems to contend with I'd like to find and visit with anyone who has done this or similar with a flairbird.. any ideas??

What comes to my mind is that you'll have to cut into the console and hump and you'll have a vestige of the column shift lever sticking out.
According to a supplier's website they have applications available for FE and "early" Ford versions but don't appear to have a 66 T-Bird on the list although there is a 66 Mustang listed so the company ought to be able to provide you with specs for the 66 T-Bird:
