Steering Wheel Puller - What Thread ???

I bought a steering wheel puller at Auto Zone to replace my detent plate -- I'm stuck on step one.

The two bolts that are with the puller are 3/8-24 and 3/8-16 . Neither of these fit the steering wheel holes.

What size are the threads in the steering wheel?

    Bart:
I believe they are 1/4-20 I thank that was what I used,

I got my gear puller at Harbor freight. Real nice set for the money It came with 3 sets of double end rods for 6 different size threads.

I also picked up a set of new lock ring pliers 8 different sizes.

    Man I love that place

    any way 1/4-20

      Hi George:

I went back to Auto Zone and returned the one that I got. It was a combo steering wheel puller and Harmonic balancer puller -- NO GOOD. Too big and bulky, with wrong bolts, as I said.

Anyway, they had another one that was JUST a wheel puller. Much smaller, and it had the correct bolts -- they are FINE THREAD, don't know the size, but they fit.

So, I'm off to step 2 --- finally.

      Thanks

        Time and Patience

That is my new slogan on doing anything with my car. My wife already knows if I say it will take one hour she doubles it. FYI, I cut my wire off on the horn ring to get it out of the way. It was no big deal to plug it back together. I also disassembled my blinker switch and did a step by step on reassembly in a previous thread. Just do a bliker switch search. Have fun!

I've given up on deciding the time

I have given up on telling my wife how long it will take to do something.

I've said Oh about an hour and 3 days later I'm finishing up.

I have been lucky once or twice, I said should take a couple of hours and have been done in less then 1, but that is an rare occasion.

any more it's "Ill be done when it's done, Be back soon"
