The reason I asked all those questions

I was building a model of a 1959 thunderbird but the kit was a 58 so I had to change the rear suspension to leaf springs and had no pictures to go by. This is what I came up with.

Awesome!!! Can I ask where you found the 58 kit? I have a 58 and would love to make one to put in our back window.

Its a monogram kit which I don't think is available from them right now. I'm not even sure if Monogram is still in business.

The reason I asked all those questions

Nice job I have been known to sniff glue and paint ie building models. Madefuel cells out of chicklets fuel lines from telephone wire many custom parts available bare metal foil model care garage for most available kits when no money to work on 63 gives me somethig to do other than knaw on furniture. GREAT job!!! I have bought up like 10 model kits of the Monogram ī58 on Ebay a few years ago. They are all the same base model, but in different colored plastic in order to make them look different. Thereīs an red hard top, a green cab, a light blue "La Bamba" but they all are the same kit. Even the cabriolet have the roof as a loose part. Then there is the "3-in 1", but itīs the same base but with a extra bag of parts. One day when I donīt have anything to do ( whenever THAT is... ? ), I will build them. And I will for sure save your pics and do one like you did as well. Excillent job!!

Holman & Moody built seven of these that were purchased by several different teams for the 1959 Nascar season. The one I did was owned by Bud Burdick from Nebraska and driven by John Beauchamp who was from Iowa. He was flagged the winner of the first Daytona 500 but later they gave it to Lee Petty. Many people felt that Petty was a lap down and the win should have stayed with Beauchamp. Petty's wife was his lap scorer so you can see why they thought that way. Beauchamp himself was keeping up with who he passed and who passed him and was sure that he had won the race. He was not surprised though when they took it away from him the next day. Bill France loved the idea of a photo finish for the publicity it brought his new track and that clearly showed that Petty was ahead even though he was a lap down.

I was at my local Michael's store today. Its kind of like Hobby Lobby and they had the kit for $24.95. If you have one in your area they might have one too. You can print out a 40% off coupon from the internet and save yourself 10 bucks.
