Wow Tom. Great Pictures and story. I went looking at paint chips and I don't think that's quite Monarch Blue on that '58. The blue '59 next to it is a great color too, but I don't see that on the chips either.

Dearborn 55th anniversary show
Like Mike, I went looking through the paint chips this morning also. It is difficult, as I found out, to match paints against paint chips. At least it was for me. I looked at all three years of Squarebirds. The closest to it, I think, is the '58 Azure Blue, the '59 Baltic Blue, and the '60 Belmont Blue Poly. However, even they do not look like a match. The '58 Silvertone Blue Poly, the '59 Steel Blue Metallic, the '60 Acapulco Blue Poly, and the '59 Spring Surf Blue Poly do not look like a match to me. I think a lot of trying to match colors has to do with how many coats of paint were put on the car. Whatever it is, it is a beautiful looking blue color as was the other one!

C'mon, guys... these are paper examples, versions of a different type of paint altogether. Everyone's computer shows colors differently, too.
Add to the mix; today's paints aren't even close to their 1960 version. Now, we're doing waterborne (right, Ray?).
It's too easy to pick a modern color of paint and try to tweak it into the 'color' you are looking for. It just doesn't work. Translucence, opacity, pigment density, metal flake size and density, primer color, number of coats of clear... the variation list is endless.
In order to get a true color match, the body needs to be stripped, painted with original paint, and baked (just like the factory did). Then, you end up with an inferior paint, for more money.
I really like the guy's paint, regardless of what it's called. It just looks sharp! Ray's car does too! (Ray, did you use Colonial White? Don't answer that. I love it, regardless of what it's called.) - DaveMember, Sons of the American Revolution

The 59 bird was a cool story too, I talked with the current owner and it was purchased new by his father for a gift to his mother. Apparently she was not happy about the car, thought it was too expensive and refused to drive it. Guess it took some time to convince her to enjoy it. I think he and his brother did the restore on it. In regards to the color it was great being parked next to those two cars, all three of us had very unique colors other than the popular reds, whites and blacks. I know when Dad had our car painted the color turned out just a little more silver gold than the original, we still love it though! My message to all of us, enjoy our cars, they are very rare!sigpic1960 Gold Bird, original owner since new. tbirdregistry #3158Comment

That blue '59 Bird needs wide whitewalls too.
Thanks for sharing these pics with us guys. Looked like a great T-Bird showing indeed. Those are the times when it is handing to have the official "Squarebird flyers" handy...

Near fatal accident
Hi new friends Tom Jr and I had a had a wonderful time in Dearborn on Friday and Saturday. He picked me up in his great new Taurus in Flint Mich (50 miles from home in Bay City). we were about 10 miles from home on a 2 lane road going about 60
(too fast for that road) when a huge truck approached a stop sign stopped and drove right out at us. Tom swerved right toward a 12 foot drainage ditch and somehow he did not hit us.he was inches from doing so. TRUST ME ONLY GOD COULD HAVE PROTECTED US), After checking our underwear we drove safely home. Met many great t bird fans and I will share some of their stories in a posting soon. Old TomComment
