Not long ago I bought a squarebird that spent it's entire life in California. I bought it thinking the same way you do. When I got it it had more rust than any car I'd ever bought. Lesson learned.

      Hmm, Bay area p'raps??

Anyway, here in NZ there's a story getting 'round that unscrupulous guys are buying classic cars from the rust belt and re-plating them as CA cars to sell to the unsuspecting because everybody knows they CA cars are meant to be rust free - (and "It never rains in California"...)

Dunno how true that is, probably quite hard to do but hey, I live 12,000 miles away...

Depends on where it lived in California. If it lived along the coast, lots of salt water there......

But if it lived in the valleys or nor cal, rust isn't much of an issue.

Mine was from the LA area and it's got bondo in the outer rockers. The floors and trunk are very nice, just the outer rockers are rusty. I'm hoping I don't find a surprise underneath when I finally get around to digging into it one day.
