Larry, you have a valuable car there. My suggestion would be to protect the value of it by putting the most correct motor into it. Unfortunately this takes longer. I would start by emailing all of the TBird salvage yards I could, beginning as close to home as possible. You might provide them with the date of manufacture of your car in hopes of coming up with a consistent engine.
best wishes!

I just noticed my battery voltage is putting out 17.2 volts
I been charging and recharging the battery becaus of the bad generator.Last nite the voltage read 12.6 went we went out. This afternoon it read over 17 volts what explanation do you have for that. LarryComment

Larry, on your battery, your voltage regulator would seem to not be regulating. Things should have ceased about 14.5 volts or so.
You can do one of two things: get the Shop Manual out and see if you can adjust it or get a new one. Where you are in the East, you could probably get one from MAC's in New York in a couple days.
An in-between might be to take the cover off and clean up the contact points. Nothing to lose. Also look for poor electrical connections.
While you have the hood open, check the battery water level in case some boiled out and the plates are exposed. Also make sure none of your light bulbs burned out.
